Is the Definition of Ready a Formal Part of Scrum?
No. The Scrum Guide does not include a Definition of Ready. Teams may use it as a complementary practice, but it is not a formal part of Scrum.
Metaphor
Having a personal packing list for a trip is like using a Definition of Ready — it helps you feel prepared, but the trip will happen whether you follow your list or not. Scrum works the same way: DoR is a helpful self-imposed practice, not an official requirement.
